Hymns of Hawaiʻi: George Kahumoku Jr., Uncle Richard Ho’opi’i & Kawika Kahiapo
This holiday season, three award-winning music masters from Hawaii, who are also ordained kahu (minister, in Hawaiian), share their deep love of their native hymn traditions. These himeni (songs) are distinctly Hawaiian, yet draw from some familiar church songs, many of which George Kahumoku Jr. learned as a young boy at the kitchen table with his parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles and cousins.
